The direct APK and the Google Play one cannot update each other, because Google signs its copy with its own key. Pick one and stay with it.
Windows
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit · Version 1.11.2
The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows will show the SmartScreen warning. Check the fingerprint below, then choose “More info” and “Run anyway”. The Microsoft Store version does not show it: Microsoft signs that copy.
Linux
64-bit (x86-64) · Version 1.11.2
The AppImage is not installed: make it executable with chmod +x and open it. The .deb installs with your system’s package manager.
iPhone
iOS 15 or later · beta
The iPhone version is waiting for App Store review. Meanwhile you can try it as a beta: install TestFlight from the App Store, open the link on the iPhone and accept. It is the same app; each test build expires after 90 days and TestFlight offers you the next one. Apple does not allow downloading the app directly from a website.
macOS
macOS 12 or later, Apple Silicon · Version 1.11.2
Unzip it and drag PrivChat to Applications. The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized, so macOS opens it without warnings. Apple Silicon Macs only (M1 or later).

Before you install
Each device is its own identity
There are no accounts, so your phone and your computer share nothing: each one creates its own identity and its own address. If you want to talk from both, they are two separate contacts.
What updates what
Google Play and the Microsoft Store update on their own. Direct packages do not: when a new version comes out it is announced under Releases, and you download it again here.
Two version numbers
The desktop app is on 1.7.1 and the phone is on 2.15.0. Neither is behind: they are two apps speaking the same protocol.

Check what you download
An encrypted messenger is an attractive target for anyone who wants to hand out a tampered copy. Before installing, check that the file’s SHA-256 fingerprint matches the one in this table.
